Michael Hoffman participates in Cooperative Education Program

Michael Hoffman of Medford Wis., is employed through the Cooperative Education Program at University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Hoffman majoring in engineering technology-industrial is working as a new product engineer with Harley-Davidson Motor Company in Tomahawk Wis.

Approximately 875 students participate annually in the program that integrates college studies with work experience in industry, business, government or public service, according to Bethany Henthorn, cooperative education coordinator.

Participating students develop employment contacts, interpersonal skills and pursue career goals in addition to applying learned educational theory to the work setting. Through the program, students leave campus for a period of up to one year to work nationally or internationally to further develop their professional skills as they prepare for full-time careers.

UW-Stout, Wisconsin's Polytechnic University, is a special mission university in the UW System. The university has a long-standing reputation of serving business, industry, education and the helping professions through its specialized educational programs.

Enrollment this year is approximately 9,357.
